There’s more to Playa than diving! Explore Mayan ruins, freshwater cenotes and more…
After landing in Cancun you’ll be greeted by your hosts Lucy and Ellie, before heading down to PdC by coach (45min journey). These four stylish condos share a roof terrace with BBQ for you to relax after your dives and boast beautiful decor and privacy for guests, all whilst being close to the main strip of 5th Ave (5min walk) and the beach (10min walk).
Mexico is famous for its incredible food so, rather than tie you to resort dining every day, we have chosen accommodation that allows you to cater for yourself or to explore the incredible local cuisine that is available in the Playa del Carmen area. Lucy and Ellie can recommend some great restaurants to get your fill of tacos and more!
Our Dive Partner
A 5* PADI dive centre, Scuba Playa’s big welcoming shop front makes them unmissable to find and to dive with! A short walk from our accommodation, their experienced, knowledgable and friendly staff will get you kitted-up from their wide selection of equipment. The dive centre is fitted with showers, a small changing area and a secure dry area for your belongings whilst you’re diving. Their boats are spacious and speedy and come fully equipped with all required first aid equipment.
We have worked with them to put together a package of 8 dives:
– 6x local reef dives
– 2x dives cenotes – freshwater sinkholes and cavern systems, 30X mins transfer by car/van (inclduded)
Each morning of diving is a 2-tank trip; 2 dives on the boat before returning to the dive centre.
Full equipment is available to rent for an additional $20/day direct to the dive centre.
Cenote dives are only available to divers with an Advanced Open Water certification due to the care required when diving in an enclosed environment and are guided by qualified cave divers.
Some cenotes are further afield and may require an additional payment at the dive centre.
If you are not certified yet or want to complete a certification whilst in Playa del Carmen instead of fun diving, please let us know in the booking form. We can discuss a different package with you.
Playa del Carmen is a haven for divers of all levels. The sprawling reef offers all kinds of marine life; from eagle rays to turtles. Huge barrel sponges hide big lobsters and flat fish scoot about on the sand.
Away from the ocean are fresh-water cenotes: sinkholes that have been around for 1000s of years filled with fossils and shafts of light pouring in from the jungle above. You can learn more about our experiences diving in our blog post about Playa del Carmen.

We have partnered with Travel Counsellors to offer you a personal flight service. So many of us use flight search platforms to find the cheapest deal but in doing so, we lose the support that a travel agent can provide us. At Luna we endeavour to bring the personal experience back to travel. Charlotte Duffy is our dedicated Luna flight support, and she has put together the below flight options for our trip to Playa del Carmen. Price £699, to incl 23kg hold baggage with British Airways.

|Cancun||Sun 17-May-20 21:15||London Gatwick||Mon 18-May-20 12:45|
Should you wish to book with Charlotte for the above flight recommendation or any other flight suggestions (if you’re joining us from another destination) you can contact her at email@example.com or 01323 660 029.

Diving in Cozumel
First dived by Jacques Cousteau in 1961, Cozumel has fantastic marine life and reefs complete with swim-throughs and pillars to explore. Whilst we love the diving in Cozumel, it is a ferry ride away from Playa del Carmen which would mean an early start which we don’t want to force upon you! You’re on holiday after all! Should you wish to dive in Cozumel, we have partnered with ProDive based in the Allegro Hotel to offer you a 2 dives for $216.50 (approx. £170).
- Return ferry from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel
- Return transfer from Cozumel ferry port to ProDive (at the Allegro Hotel)
- 2 dives in Cozumel marine park
- Marine park entrance fee
- Lunch and soft drinks
- Nitrox tank fill (if qualified)
- Equipment rental @ $30.60 for 2 tanks (approx. £25)
Explore the Yucatan Peninsular
The Yucatan Peninsula is peppered with Mayan ruins from thousands of years ago. Both Lucy and Ellie have experienced the ancient pyramids of Coba and Chichen-Itza, and explored the surrounding areas. Luna is all about scuba diving, but if you want to experience Mayan Mexico, there are a few free days in Playa del Carmen to have an adventure on land! Don’t forget to visit the often overlooked (but not to be missed) ocean-facing ruins in Tulum – a Luna favourite!
Luma Tours Caribe are our neighbours in PdC, and offer competitive deals to visit Coba and Chichen-Itza, as well as day trips to Isla Mujeres. Feel free to contact Sonja in advance to look at potential options.
Towards Tulum and further inland are a huge selection of freshwater cenotes that you can go to snorkel. Many of the ruins excursions will include a cenote visit, but Lucy and Ellie can also recommend some other smaller cenotes that are great to cool off in! We have starred some of our favourites on our Google Map here.
We are very proud of the fact that our dive partner Scuba Playa is safety focused, which means you:
- Must have a signed-off PADI dive medical waiver, with a doctor’s note for any “yes” answers. You can review the PADI medical waiver here.
- Must have valid recreational scuba dive insurance to cover min. 18m (Open Water) or 30m (Advanced). We recommend DAN Sport cover, but many holiday trip providers offer recreational scuba diving cover as an add-on.
Luna will also take a copy of your insurance and next of kin contact details in case of an emergency.
